Mr. Bruce was born in Peoria, Illinois in 1958 and has resided in Dallas since 1964. He is an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. He attended Texas Tech University in 1976 through 1978 and Oral Roberts University in 1979 through 1980, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. During his undergraduate work, Mr. Bruce was honored with placement on the president’s list for academic achievement. Mr. Bruce then attended Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University from 1980 through 1984 where he received a Masters of Divinity degree and became an ordained Methodist minister. During his graduate work at Perkins, Mr. Bruce’s studies included an emphasis in ethics and counseling. Mr. Bruce attended law school at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, receiving a Juris Doctorate degree in 1987. In law school, Mr. Bruce’s awards include the Bracewell Patterson legal writing award for best brief and the American Jurisprudence Award in Contracts and he was Notes and Comments Editor for The Journal of Air Law & Commerce, a law review at Southern Methodist University Dedman Law School.
Upon graduation, Mr. Bruce joined the international law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. During his tenure at Gibson, Dunn, & Crutcher, Mr. Bruce had responsibility for a large number of cases filed nationwide, involving multi-district litigation, for causes of action alleging antitrust violations, tortious interference with contract and with business relations, and breach of contract. Mr. Bruce also handled a variety of other contract and complex business litigation while at Gibson Dunn. In 1990, Mr. Bruce began working with a national retailer in North Texas in handling its litigated cases, including real estate, pharmacy, construction, employments, class action, personal injury, and false arrest litigation.
In December of 1993, Mr. Bruce resigned his association with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher to form a partnership with Bobby Pryor, Pryor & Bruce. Mr. Bruce has successfully represented clients in multiple dozens of jury trials and continues to represent clients in matters of commercial and business litigation, commercial real estate litigation, REIT litigation, employment issues, and class action litigation. Mr. Bruce is licensed to practice before the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth, Ninth and Tenth Circuits, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, and all Texas state courts. Mr. Bruce frequently handles cases for clients of the firm throughout the United States.
Mr. Bruce is married with four children and nine grandchildren. In addition to practicing law, Mr. Bruce raises cattle and horses. Mr. Bruce is a member of LakePointe Church. His foremost hobby is largemouth bass fishing. Mr. Bruce also serves on the Board of Directors of Kindred Hearts, a local charitable organization.
